What Are Good Mold Removal Products?
Mold is a common fungus which you may see indoors or out; but it is only when it happens to grow in our homes that we really take notice of this fast growing and nearly ubiquitous fungus. Mold prefers high humidity, low light places to grow; without adequate moisture, mold cannot even germinate from a spore. In the home, mold tends to show up in the parts of the home which have the highest levels of humidity: bathrooms and basements are the places where mold is most frequently seen.
While it’s usually pretty easy to get rid of mold using any of a number of mold removal products, it is something which should be taken care of immediately. Mold is unsightly and some types of mold (particularly some strains of black mold) can be highly toxic and cause a variety of illnesses and even permanent damage. No matter what type of mold you’ve spotted growing in your home, you’ll want to make sure you can get rid of it and fast! Keep reading to see a few of the products which can effectively remove mold from your home.
1) Chlorine bleach: Bleach is an incredibly effective disinfectant, deodorant and antibiotic/antifungal product. Water with a little bleach is a simple and usually very efficient way to kill mold growth and their spores. When cleaning any medium to large areas of mold, begin by misting water mixed with bleach over the area – it prevents spores from becoming airborne and spreading as you clean (and the bleach is usually sufficient to kill them anyway). Bleach can also be added to soap and water to make one of the simplest, yet most effective mold removal products you could ask for.
2) Soap/detergent and water: Simple, yes – but for many common strains of mold, a thorough cleaning with just soap and water will kill mold and eliminate the problem. Especially combined with bleach (never mix an ammonia-containing cleaning product with bleach!), this is a combination which is highly effective for removing minor, superficial mold growth.
3)Safe Shield: While the best mold removal products are really the simplest such as bleach and soap, some of the newer alternatives to these classics are worth looking into for one very useful additional feature they offer: a mold inhibitor agent. Safe shield is one such product which performs well at removing mold and making the area an inhospitable one to discourage future mold growth.
4) Tilex: This well known brand of mold and mildew remover does indeed perform as advertised, doing a very good job of killing mold and mildew. Is it a better mold removal product than bleach? Hard to say – both are very efficient at killing mold, although it is more expensive (granted, bleach is just about the least expensive cleaning product you can buy). If you’re using Tilex to remove mold, listen to what the label says about using in a well ventilated area; the product’s extremely strong smell has been known to make users nauseous and dizzy if used in a poorly ventilated room.

I am doing research on companies that will remove mold from homes. What experience (good and bad) have any of you had with these companies? What questions should I be asking? Or, is this something my husband and I can do ourselves? I am thinking the project is too big for us to handle properly. I am also interested in the costs involved. Any constructive information is appreciated. Thanks!

There is a little bit of mold in the attic due to poor ventilation of shower (about a 3 square foot area). The mold inspector told us that is the only mold in the house, and it should be an easy fix. Our basement is riddled with mold. White fluffy stuff on the floor, and I'm sure other various kinds all over. When it rains, water pours in through cracks in the wall. And we don't really have any great form of drainage. It smells very bad. As far as I know, we haven't been getting sick from it, but you can never tell. Any suggestions? We don't have enough money to have a company come in and remove it, but we have two little girls and i don't want them getting sick. I would love to have the m
